Both Dr. Paul and Dr. Jen graduated from North Carolina State University – College of Veterinary Medicine in Raleigh, NC in 2004 and 2006, respectively. Dr. Paul was a native North Carolinian, raised in Cary, NC and a proud fan of the NC State Wolfpack, where he also attended undergraduate school. Dr. Jen had traveled from the northeast, growing up in Toms River, NJ and obtaining her undergraduate degree in Biology from The George Washington University in Washington DC. After veterinary school, Dr. Paul went on to a residency program at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem NC and Dr. Jen worked in a busy small animal practice in the area. Two years later, they moved to Nashville Tennessee where Dr. Paul worked at Vanderbilt University and Dr. Jen worked as a relief veterinarian in several local veterinary clinics. In 2009, they moved to Florida to become the new owners of Palm Bay Animal Clinic and later expanded to a "family" of 4 locations between 2013 and 2022. At that time, they decided to shift their focus towards a healthier balance between work and family life. They sold the remaining practices and cut back to part-time work as relief vets, also enabling them time to begin building a life in Leadville (scroll down to read more about what drew them to the Leadville community)!
In the summer of 2024, the decision was made to become full time residents in Leadville and the idea for Modern Mobile Vet was born. It's goal is to increase access to full service veterinary care for Leadville/ Lake County residents and visitors, as well as to support the local animal shelter's medical needs. With the veterinary industry continuing to move toward large, corporate owned facilities, the Sikoski’s have focused on keeping the personalized, family doctor feel that gives clients the opportunity to build closer relationships with them. Their vision is to continue to provide full service veterinary care along with what they believe is a unique and hard-to-find personal touch and strong bond between the doctor and the patient.

The Sikoski family has included many different species over the years- ranging in size from a ferret to all the way to an Old English Mastiff, with several cats in between and two tiny humans! We currently have two daughters- Ashley and Julianna, and two cats- "Dwight" and "Big Tuna", and enjoy spending time together as a family as much as possible. Some of our favorite things to do as a family are to play and hike outside, go camping in National Parks, and visit the Great Wolf Lodge.
Our journey to Leadville begins with Dr. Paul's love of running and mountains, and ultimately his discovery of The Leadville Trail 100 ultramarathon. It was not easy to train for such events living at sea level and so instead of just visiting, we began the process of building a home in Leadville in 2020. Dr. Paul completed his first LT100 run in 2021 and claimed the "big buckle" in 2024 with a time of 24:42:10 after finally having the opportunity that summer to live and train at altitude. He is eager to continue to participate in the race series as a runner and volunteer.
Dr. Jen was also given an exciting opportunity to become a part of the Leadville community in the summer of 2024 that allowed her to pursue her passion for musical theater. She was thrilled to play the role of "Rapunzel" in the Lyric Theater of Leadville's production of "Into the Woods" at The Tabor Opera House. She later sang a duet in the Boom Days talent show and is looking forward to future performances.
As parents, it was very important to us that our girls felt at home in Leadville too. During our first summer here, Ashley and Julianna were happy to take part in outdoor activities for kids including "Rockies Rock" and "Wee Sports", with their friends. Ashley has also been involved in competition gymnastics for several years and we were fortunate to be able to continue this through the team at Ark Valley Athletics in BV. Modern Mobile Vet's schedule may be adjusted in the winter/ spring to allow our family to travel to her competitions. Other realities of working parents such as school schedules, daycare hours, child illness, and other family logistics currently dictate our availability to clients/ patients, and we appreciate your understanding!

We adopted our kitties, "Big Tuna" (left) and "Dwight" (right) as kittens in Oct 2023. Their names are inspired by one of our family's favorite TV shows- "The Office".
